Metal Recycling

WE COLLECT AND RECYCLE METALS AT A COMPETITIVE PRICE

When recycled responsibly, metal possesses the unique ability to be melted down and used indefinitely. H&S Metals operate two scrap metal yards in Hampshire where we work to process ferrous and non-ferrous metals into a state fit for recycling.

By recycling your unused metal, you not only earn extra cash but also play a part in building a more sustainable future. At H&S Metals, we have two options when it comes to scrap metal recycling.

What are the benefits of recycling your metal?

Contributing to a greener, cleaner environment

When you recycle your metal, you prevent it from being sent to landfill. Landfills are unsightly and contribute to pollution and environmental degradation. Instead, the scrap metal is melted down and re-used. This conserves natural resources and uses less energy than is used to initially find and mine the resource.

The journey of your waste metal

Your metal will be sorted and placed into a fragmentiser to make it more manageable

Your scrap metal will be sent to a smelter or a furnace where it is subjected to extremely high temperatures to melt it down. Each grade of metal will go into its own smelter to prevent contamination between the metals.

Once melted, and in liquid form, the metals are moulded into solid metallic bars or ingots ready for transportation or distribution. Your metal could be exported anywhere across the world to be re-used and made into a variety of products.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is scrap metal recycling?

Scrap metal recycling is the process of collecting and processing unwanted metals so they can be melted down and reused in new products. At H&S Metals, we make the process simple while ensuring materials are handled responsibly, with a strong focus on sustainability and reducing environmental impact.

Why is scrap metal recycling important?

At H&S Metals, we see scrap metal recycling as more than just good practice; it’s a way of protecting resources for the future. Recycling helps reduce the carbon footprint by limiting the need for mining new materials, cuts down on energy use, and lowers the impact on the environment. For our customers, it also means turning unwanted metal into instant value, with same-day payments and the added benefit of clearing valuable space at home or on-site

How to sort scrap metal for recycling?

To sort your metal for recycling, first separate ferrous metals (which stick to a magnet) from non-ferrous metals such as copper, aluminium, and brass. Keeping metals sorted helps streamline the recycling process and may improve the value you receive. We also recommend removing no-metal parts like rubber, plastic or fittings, as these can affect quality. For a more detailed breakdown on how to prepare your scrap for recycling, take a look at our step-by-step guide.

What metals can you recycle?

At H&S Metals, we buy and recycle a wide range of materials. The metals we accept include copper, brass, aluminium, stainless steel, steel and iron, as well as electric motors, cables and batteries. By dealing with both ferrous and non-ferrous metals, we make it easy for you to turn unwanted items into value. Whether it’s smaller household cables or larger industrial machinery, we process everything responsibly with a focus on sustainability. Come and visit us at our Portsmouth or Bishop’s Waltham yards and benefit from quick, same-day payments.
